gifts of mother nature

The coo of a cuckoo the bumble of a bee

The gurgles of a stream the swishing of a tree

Are all nature’s voices which we love to hear

Sounds that bring in our daily lives lots of cheer

The unique smell of the rain soaked earth

Can you ever measure its dollar’s worth

The scent of a rose or a jasmine maybe

Or the balmy zephyr coming from the sea

Take a deep breath and you shall smell

Nature’s whiff and feel your heart swell

The sun like a toddler’s giant orange ball

Is a blissful sight during a morning stroll

The formation of birds flying above the ocean blue

Firmly sculpted in the mind’s eye long after they flew

As you walk on the grass, the velvety feel

Touching, tickling your feet and also your heel

The silkiness of the sheep’s fleece

Touch of Nature in all of these

The sweetness of honey, the tanginess of a lime

The juiciness of a mango all such tastes sublime

The freshness of the water of the cool mountain springs

Nothing quenches your thirst better and satiation brings

Nature has the elements to gladden each faculty

Receive them bounteously, slow down your celerity

An Ode to National Defence Academy

An ode to National Defence Academy, Pune

Where the sweet chirping of sparrows woke us up
To sit in the dewy lawn with a teacup.
Where the peacock ran into the woods dense
on hearing our footfall.
But not before we caught a glimpse
Of the prettiest bird of all.

As we went to our school cycling,
we could see the cadets marching.
Some to their classes, others for some training,
with sprightly steps and all the while musing.
About their future, their challenges and parents dear,
because they have come from very far to be here.
To train themselves and defend their beloved country,
to maintain her pride so that she always remains free.
The mountains on all sides are like guardians strong and tall,
ensconcing this academy which is the finest of all.
The Sudan Block a mighty structure in red,
was the hallowed area where the young guns read.
Their lessons taught by professors learned
who loved their subjects and their "boys" no end.
Through the telescope on the lofty Science Block
to see the Hailey’s Comet we had flock.
The Peacock Bay which was a picturesque getaway
on weekends, on bicycles we would come this way.
The weekly movie shows at the auditorium,
or sometimes at the open air stadium.
After the swim a few icecreams at the mess,
while talking with friends was pure happiness.
On a full moon night I have once seen,
chitals strutting about in my garden green.
Their spots shining in the moonlight silver,
the scene etched in my mind forever.
Countless memories reside in my mind,
of a paradise which is one of its kind.
So I pray for this splendid Academy,
a haven to live, love, laugh and proud be.

A flashback on School Life

My flashback on school life - hope you guys like it

In neatly starched uniforms and polished shoes we came
To school every morning without an excuse lame

The morning assembly would be to thank the Almighty
For giving us this pretty world and all things aplenty

At the ring of the bell our periods would alter
A quick whisper before the next teacher enters

For the interval our hungry stomachs waited
Gobbled up our fare, until we felt satiated

For the lolly to the canteen we rushed
If we clamoured for it we were hushed

Forever wished our intervals were much longer
So that in the corridors we could linger

But study is what we gotta do
So out come the books and pencil too

The Games period is what everyone sought
Why not have two of them everyone thought

But after the Games is the History test
Memorised the dates and wars to our best

But oh! we garbled it all up during the exam
Would surely get a shouting from the ma'am

With a caper we went to the Library
This period was the best coz we were weary

After a hard day's work at the school
Reading our pet books would be so cool

The school bell rang loud and clear
And everyone grinned ear to ear

Because to our houses we all loved to go
With our bags and the water-bottles in tow

Only to come back the next day
To study, write, read, chatter and play

This was one of those typical school days
After that we went our different ways

School reunions is now when we gather
And love to see our school-mates prosper

In their chosen fields they worked sincerely
And got rewarded for it abundantly

That is the reason we have never forgot
Our school days because learning is what they brought

Gift-wrapped in studying, playing, reading and fun
Those sweet memories are second to none

The Happy Home-Maker

Get up from the bed say a silent prayer
Say to yourself, heartily, a new day is here
Give a cold and quick splash see your face glow
Rush to the kitchen, feel your energy flow
Pack their tiffins, ready his too,
Help them dress up, find the odd shoe
Puja time,do it with your heart and soul
Be thankful to God and His loving role
To make your life full of mirth and cheer
To be loving and caring, with no room for fear
Have your breakfast, nice and hot
Check the mail, to see what it has brought
Some bills, to be paid,
Time to face the checkbook
But as the veterans said
Its better to check the facebook
Feel like chatting with friends
be the whole day online
But gotta finish all the chores
Prepare the lunch on time
So switching off my computer
And all the poetic thoughts in mind
For all of it to recur
When its time to unwind

Spring is here..

The morning is balmy, the evening breezy
The fragrance of flowers making one gleefully dizzy

The cuckoo is cooing her song happily
Natural and sweet is her melody

The sky is blue and clear
With feathery clouds everywhere

Mother Nature is at her best
She never seems to take a rest

New leaves and branches arrive at her behest
Helping birds make their cozy nests

Its time to go out and soak in the sun
Spring is here buddies, so its time to have fun

An Ode to College Life

Sometimes when I am sitting all alone

I remember the good old college days

When without a tear or a moan

We had our different ways.

Some wouldn't miss a practical or lecture

Some would bunk these for the latest picture

Some came to show off their style

While some came only once in a while

We’d wait when we would be free

To assemble below the gulmohar tree

And get the newest gossip from our class BBC

Not missing a word, so attentive were we

Anxiously waiting for the birthday treat

Another chance for all of us to meet

To live life to the fullest was our goal

Study, make merry not money, was our role

Today when we all look back

We just heave a sigh

Such simple pleasures now we lack

Of the golden days gone by
